กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ กุย

            ส่วยเป็นกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์หนึ่งที่มีภาษาวัฒนธรรมและวิถีชีวิตในอดีตที่แตกต่างไปจากชนกลุ่มอื่นใน    ประเทศไทย ชนกลุ่มนี้เรียกตัวเองว่า กวยหรือกุย แต่คนทั่วไปนิยมเรียกเขาว่า “ส่วย” มีภูมิลําเนาเดิมอยู่ ในดินแดนตอนใต้ของประเทศลาว แถบเมืองอัตปือแขวงจําปาศักดิ์ แต่ด้วยเหตุผลทางการเมืองการสงคราม จึง  ได้พากันอพยพมาตั้งถิ่นฐานอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่จังหวัดสุรินทร์ จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ และจังหวัดศรีสะเกษ ชนกลุ่มนี้มี ความชํานาญในการคล้องช้างมาก่อนที่จะอพยพมาอยู่ในประเทศไทย ดังนั้นเมื่ออพยพมาอยู่ในแผ่นดินไทย   ปัจจุบันจึงได้นําช้างเข้ามาเลี้ยงด้วย และมีการเลี้ยงสืบต่อกันมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน จนถือได้ว่าเป็นมรดกทาง วัฒนธรรมที่สําคัญอีกส่วนหนึ่งในวิถีชีวิตชาวส่วย 

            โดยธรรมชาติแล้ว ช้างมีลักษณะนิสัยชอบอยู่ป่ามากกว่าอยู่ในที่โล่ง ดังนั้นเมื่อกลุ่มชาวส่วยเลือก
